Installation & Maintenance Guide
-
Two-Person Setup Required
Mounting your tent requires at least two people for safe lifting and positioning. -
Positioning
The Alpha Tent is designed to open on the passenger side only. Place the tent on your roof rack, bed rack, or trailer and center it to your desired position for proper balance and alignment. -
Securing the Tent
Use the provided mounting hardware and plates. Slide the bolts into the base channel — two bolts per corner (one in front and one behind each crossbar). Run each bolt through the holes in the mounting brackets and thread the nuts onto the bolts. -
Final Alignment
Confirm the tent is straight, balanced, and properly positioned. Once satisfied, tighten all nuts evenly until the tent is fully secured and cannot shift. -
Opening the Tent
Release the side buckles and push up on the handle to engage the hydraulic lift arms. The hard shell will open smoothly. -
Ladder Setup
Extend the telescoping ladder fully, pull it downward until the folding side of the tent opens and locks into position, then adjust the ladder to the desired height and angle for safe entry. -
Final Touches
Insert the tension rods into the window and overhang sleeves to hold the awnings in place. Open the door, secure your ladder, and your rooftop setup is complete.
Maintenance & Care
Your Alpha Tent features a clear coat over its ABS shell that protects against UV rays, salt, and debris. With time and exposure, this layer can fade or chip — regular cleaning and care will extend its lifespan.
Clear Coat Care Tips
-
Avoid Prolonged Sunlight: Continuous direct sun exposure can wear down the coating and open micro-pores. Whenever possible, park in a shaded area.
-
Clean Bird Droppings & Bugs Promptly: Both are acidic and can damage the finish if left untreated. Rinse with clean water and a soft cloth.
-
Protect from Salt Air: In coastal or winter conditions, rinse your shell regularly to prevent corrosion and fading.
-
Avoid Tree Sap: Sap can bond to the coating and trap dirt. Clean gently with mild soap and water.
-
Wash & Wax Regularly: Hand wash using mild automotive soap and a microfiber cloth. Apply a thin coat of automotive wax or clear coat sealant after washing to maintain gloss and protection.
Tip: Clear-coat protection sprays or waxes designed for cars work perfectly for your tent shell.
Shell Repair – “Life Happens”
Minor cracks or surface blemishes can be repaired with a rigid plastic repair compound suitable for ABS material.
Repair Steps
-
Clean Thoroughly: Wash the damaged area with soap, water, and a plastic cleaner. Dry completely.
-
Prep the Surface: Lightly sand or grind the area to remove loose material and create a clean bonding surface.
-
Apply Repair Compound: Use an ABS-compatible plastic repair kit or compound. Once cured, sand smooth.
-
Prime & Paint (Optional): Apply primer and finish paint for a seamless appearance.
-
Reinforce if Needed: For deeper cracks, back the repair with epoxy for added strength.
Realignment & Heat Correction
If the shell is slightly distorted from temperature changes:
-
Warm the area gently with a heat gun until flexible.
-
Shape it back using light pressure or a roller, then cool with a damp cloth.
-
Sand with fine (80-grit) sandpaper if needed to remove uneven spots.
Note: The ABS shell naturally expands and contracts with temperature shifts. Minor spacing between the shell and floor is normal and does not affect performance.
Important Notes
-
Designed to open on the passenger side only.
-
Ensure your roof rack or crossbars can handle at least 190+ lbs dynamic and 600–1,100 lbs static weight.
-
Re-check all mounting bolts after your first trip and periodically thereafter.
-
Avoid power washing the tent — gentle cleaning extends lifespan.
