Vehicle Compatibility Notes

The vehicle models listed above represent platforms on which this rooftop tent is commonly used by customers.

It is important to ensure that both your vehicle roof and roof rack dynamic load ratings are sufficient to support the tent.

Tent Specifications

  • Open Dimensions (L × W × H): 75 × 87 × 52 in
  • Closed Dimensions (L × W × H): 75 × 55 × 15 in
  • Tent Weight: 176 lbs
  • Static Weight Capacity: 1,100 lbs

Rear Hatch & Tailgate Clearance

Rear hatch or tailgate clearance depends on the relationship between the vehicle’s usable roof length and the tent’s closed length.

If the tent closely matches or exceeds the usable roof length, rear hatch or tailgate clearance may be limited, and full opening may not be possible.

Common solutions include:

Depending on the vehicle and mounting position, the following solutions may help improve clearance:

  • Repositioning the tent forward on the roof rack
  • Using a full-length platform rack
  • Adding rack risers or spacers
  • Upgrading rear hatch lift struts
  • Using a bed-mounted or external support system (exoskeleton rack), where applicable

Load Capacity & Support Systems

If your vehicle roof or roof rack does not meet the required dynamic load capacity, an external support system (such as an exoskeleton rack) may be required to safely carry the tent.

Important Disclaimer

Always verify specifications with your vehicle and roof rack manufacturer prior to installation.

Installation & Maintenance Guide

  1. Two-Person Setup Required
Mounting the tent requires at least two people for safe lifting and positioning.
  2. Positioning
The Alpha Tent is designed to open on the passenger side only. Place the tent on your roof rack, bed rack, or trailer and center it to achieve proper balance and alignment.
  3. Securing the Tent
Use the supplied mounting hardware and plates. Slide the bolts into the base channel, using two bolts per corner (one in front of and one behind each crossbar). Insert the bolts through the mounting brackets and thread the nuts on by hand.
  4. Final Alignment
Confirm the tent is straight, balanced, and positioned correctly. Once satisfied, tighten all nuts evenly until the tent is fully secured and cannot shift.
  5. Opening the Tent
Release the side buckles and lift the handle to engage the hydraulic lift arms. The hard shell will open smoothly.
  6. Ladder Setup
Fully extend the telescoping ladder, pull it downward until the folding section opens and locks, then adjust the ladder height and angle for safe entry.
  7. Final Touches
Insert the tension rods into the window and overhang sleeves to support the awnings. Open the door, secure the ladder, and your rooftop setup is complete.

Maintenance & Care

Your Alpha Tent features a clear coat over the ABS shell that protects against UV rays, salt, and debris. Over time, this layer may fade or chip. Routine cleaning and care will significantly extend the life of the shell.

Clear Coat Care Tips

  • Avoid prolonged sunlight exposure. Park in shaded or covered areas whenever possible to reduce UV degradation.
  • Clean bird droppings and bug residue promptly. These substances are acidic and can damage the finish if left untreated. Rinse with clean water and a soft cloth.
  • Protect from salt exposure. In coastal or winter environments, rinse the shell regularly to prevent corrosion and fading.
  • Avoid tree sap. Sap can bond to the surface and trap dirt. Clean gently using mild soap and water.
  • Wash and wax regularly. Hand wash using mild automotive soap and a microfiber cloth. Apply automotive wax or clear-coat sealant to maintain gloss and protection.

Tip: Automotive clear-coat sprays or waxes work perfectly for maintaining the tent shell.

Shell Repair – “Life Happens”

Minor cracks or surface blemishes can be repaired using a rigid ABS-compatible plastic repair compound.

Repair Steps

  1. Clean Thoroughly: Wash the damaged area with soap, water, and a plastic-safe cleaner. Dry completely.
  2. Prepare the Surface: Lightly sand or grind the area to remove loose material and create a proper bonding surface.
  3. Apply Repair Compound: Use an ABS-safe repair kit or compound. Once cured, sand smooth.
  4. Prime & Paint (Optional): Apply primer and finish paint for a clean, seamless appearance.
  5. Reinforce if Needed: For deeper cracks, back the repair with epoxy or reinforcement material for added strength.

Realignment & Heat Correction

If the shell becomes slightly distorted due to temperature changes:

  • Gently warm the area with a heat gun until pliable.
  • Reshape using light pressure or a roller, then cool with a damp cloth.
  • Sand lightly with fine (≈80-grit) sandpaper if needed to smooth the surface.

Note: ABS naturally expands and contracts with temperature changes. Minor spacing between the shell and base is normal and does not affect performance.

Important Notes

  • The tent is designed to open on the passenger side only.
  • Ensure your roof rack or crossbars are rated for at least 190+ lbs dynamic load and 600–1,100 lbs static load.
  • Recheck all mounting hardware after your first trip and periodically thereafter.
  • Avoid pressure washing the tent. Gentle cleaning methods will extend its lifespan.
