The primary difference between the Tuff Stuff Alpine 61 and the Tuff Stuff Alpine 51 is size.
Video shown is the Tuff Stuff Alpine 61. The Alpine 51 shares the same design and features, with the primary difference being overall size.
Overview
Tuff Stuff Alpine 51 is a compact aluminum rooftop tent built for campers who want fast deployment, flexible airflow, and true four-season durability in a narrower footprint.
Dual-action opening system allows two setup configurations:
- Open the rear section for a low-profile wedge
- Open the front section for a full pop-up with added screened windows
With four gas struts, one person can deploy the Alpine 51 in approximately one minute, making it ideal for quick overnights and efficient pack-down.
Constructed with a full aluminum shell, blackout-coated fabric, and a reinforced honeycomb floor, this tent is designed to handle rain, wind, snow, and extended outdoor use.

Installation & Setup Guide
Mounting your tent requires a minimum of two people — ideally three, as the Alpine 51 is solidly built.
-
Position the tent on top of your vehicle’s roof rack, bed rack, or trailer, centered to your preference.
-
For hatchbacks, ensure there’s enough rear clearance to fully open the trunk.
-
-
Using the supplied hardware and mounting plates, slide the bolts into the tent’s T-channel rail.
-
There should be two bolts per corner (one in front, one behind each crossbar).
-
-
Run the bolts through the mounting bracket holes, and thread the provided nuts onto each bolt.
-
Check your tent’s alignment, vehicle balance, and appearance, then tighten all nuts until the tent is firmly secured and cannot move.
Setting Up in Wedge Mode
-
Locate the two rear latches at the back of the tent.
-
Pull each red latch upward to release tension, then unhook it from its clasp.
-
Push upward on the handles — the tent will automatically rise into wedge form using the built-in gas struts.
-
Tuck the elastic cinch strap upward into the T-slot for storage.
-
Attach the telescoping ladder at your preferred entry point and adjust for height and angle.
-
Unzip the screen and fabric panels, roll them up, and secure them with the provided clips.
-
Deploy your window awnings and shoe bags using the supplied rods and storage clips.
Once complete, your Alpine 51 is fully ready for use in its wedge configuration — ideal for quick rest stops or single-night setups.
Converting to Full Pop-Up Mode
-
From the wedge setup, locate the two front latches and unlatch them from the tent frame.
-
Push upward on the handles — the tent will smoothly expand into full pop-up mode for maximum interior height and airflow.
-
Pull the elastic cinch strap downward into the T-slot for safekeeping.
-
Unzip all window covers to open the mesh panels and allow full ventilation.
-
To block light or for privacy, simply zip the fabric panels closed.
-
With all windows and doors zipped, the blackout-coated fabric creates a completely dark interior — perfect for uninterrupted rest in any environment.
Important Notes
-
Recheck all mounting bolts and brackets after your first trip and periodically thereafter.
-
Always ensure your crossbars or bed rack can handle at least 190 lbs dynamic load and 600+ lbs static load.
-
The tent is designed to open on the passenger side only for easier and safer access.
